All the praise goes out to You!

Posted by VON

Girls' Brigade YLPT Camp 2009
@ Wesley Methodist Church, Penang.

Games and Praise & Worship Session, 7.30pm - 8pm
Worship Leader ; Von.

I reached Wesley at 7pm and met some of the girls. Their earlier session on drill just finished and it was bath and dinner time. They were hanging out at the playground while having their dinner. I took some of the leftovers and bones fed the cute doggie there. It was so adorable, it kept following me everywhere and it wanted me to play with it. I love dogs, heh!

Went up to the rooms and met some of the girls. I was shocked to see only about 20 girls there. Two years ago when I went for my training camp at Teluk Intan, there were about 50 girls altogether from different companies and from different states. It's sad that these girls were all Penangites and their training is in Penang as well. From MGS, Union HS and SMK Air Itam. They were saying that it didn't really feel like a camp cos they were so close to home.

The SMK Air Itam & Union HS clan.

MGSians; Spot Megan in black!

So I went in and introduced myself and ask them to tell me their names one by one. I'm guilty of forgetting their names right on the spot =X One girl didn't know if she was 15 or 16 =\ I looked for my pendrive to start the slideshow I prepared for P&W, and there was no laptop. So I had to go hunting in the church for a laptop and projector. I found a White MacBookPro! xDDD

Plugged in and started the slideshow late! It was 7.45pm already. The icebreaker I chose was a Sunday School song, "When I Remember What The Lord Has Done". The girls really enjoyed the "No no no, never never, ah ah ah!" bit. Of course, I made them do excessive butt shaking xD Megan played the piano for the session.

The next song was "This Is How We Overcome". The girls were so into the turning around and jumping and dancing. It was an action song. Loved it! Even Auntie Noreen joined in the action. They were a very lively bunch.

Then I moved on to a fast and jumpy number "The Time Has Come", which I thought was impossible for me to sing the song without my band there. I thought it would've been dead and unlively without drums and guitars. Guess it wasn't half as bad. In fact, it wen't perfect. The room was echoing with enthusiasm.

The last song was "'Till I See You". This is one of my favourite songs, it's got alot of meaning to it. The girls were a little slow catching on to the rhythm of the song, because they've never heard it before. We sang the song once, then I stopped for a lil' prayer..

..and then we sang it again. This time, you could like really feel the whole room coming alive with passion for God, and there was definately a deeper understanding of the song the second time around singing it. Their voices were louder, their praise rose and the meaning of the song etched deep in their hearts.

I was happy to lead this bunch of girls who I thought would be difficult to communicate with as I didn't know which type of crowd I was getting. And it was also my first time that I was invited to worship lead as an outsider. Well, not exactly as an outsider because I am a YL myself, but. I'm used to worship lead in school, and at camps that I attend, but this was a different experience as I am not a member of this camp. I was always used to only a certain bunch of girls that I would lead. Get me? Lol. It was an awesome, awesome experience and I would love to do it again and again!

And then it was over.. Haha, not quite yet! I made them sing "When I Remember What The Lord Has Done" again, just in case they forgot the ridiculous butt shaking! xD It was sad to part with the MacBookPro, oh I just miss it so much now :(

I shared with them some verses from the book of Colossians, to remind them the whole purpose of the camp. That it isn't just a camp that you attend, sit for an exam, and if you pass, you get to be a Young Leader. That's not how leaders are made. And the rank of a Young Leader is not to be worked for and then just to lose the whole meaning of working for the braid and the rank. Ohhh, it's so much more than just a rank. We're not only the Girls' Brigade, but we're also God's Brigade.

Colossians 3 : 23-24
23. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men;

24. since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

And there you have it, Worship Leading ; Von style =D

EDIT : I just heard from Auntie Noreen that the girls and the officials really enjoyed my P&W session last night, and are planning to sing one of the songs on Sunday during Wesley's 2nd Service =D

Colossians 2 : 6-7
6. So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him,
7. rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and over flowing with thankfulness.
BE the LEADER,
MAKE the DIFFERENCE.
